Class Schedule
Our journey, at Journey...Whats happening in Division 21 - April 9 - 13, 2018
Students worked hard on Spring Break each completing a Literary Analysis on a novel of their choice! They explored aspects such as; setting, characters, plot, conflict, theme, and symbols while independently reading on their break. Thanks to all of their hard work, our classroom library is now 'Lit' with excellent critic reviews of a variety of novels! Hmmmm....... What will YOU read next? Whats happening in Division 21 for Term 3
As we begin our final term together, we will also be beginning some new topics! Mathematics: We are working through a unit on division to brush up on our long division skills from fifth grade. Once we complete this mini unit, we will dive right (angled) into Geometry! Geometry and measurement won't take us to the end of the school year - we will also take a look at fractions near the end of May and in June. Please bring a duotang with lined paper to school for Math as soon as possible. English Language Arts: Before the break students experimented with creative writing activities. Now that we are back and ready to roar, we will be exploring the works of Dr. Seuss. While viewing and analyzing his many varieties of writing and writing purposes, students will have opportunities to create original works of their own, as well as explore other authors and their purposes for writing. Sciences Humaines: Before the break, we began our unit on governments. We mostly looked at the federal level of government and are now continuing with the provincial level government and municipal government. We look forward to role playing in a mock election and parliament as well as a field trip to the Sooke Municipal Hall. Sciences: We started a unit on Space before the March Break. We will continue with that while incorporating the concepts of gravity and technology. Students will do an independent research project on a celestial body of their choosing. Francais Langue: We are experimenting with a new approach to Dictees and grammar. Dictees will now be on Fridays and we will spend the week intensifying our study of French grammar that will then culminate in a demonstration of the week's learning in the form of the dictee. We will continue to watch a French film or tv series on Fridays. I am also in the process of organizing a pen-pal arrangement with an immersion class at EMCS. Also in the works - a French novel study. Health and Career Education: We are starting a unit on Personal Development in which we will talk about goal setting, problem solving, decision making and self-assessment. Next, we will talk about Connections to Community and will be mostly focusing on Environmentalism. We will conclude the year with a unit on Life and Career Planning where students will explore and research a career of their choosing. Gymnase: We will be doing a Softball unit for the month of April. If students have baseball mitts at home, please bring them to school on Mondays and Wednesdays for PE. Students are welcome to leave them locked in class if they are not needed at home. In May, we will be doing a unit on Badminton.
